Front walks, garden paths, sidewalks and concrete steps that are level, safe to walk and easy on the eye.
Concrete
Walkways and steps get used every day, and they're also where cracked or heaved concrete becomes a trip hazard. Tree roots, frost heave and settling soil push sections out of line, and de-icing salts can make steps flake and crumble.
New walkways are laid out to connect the driveway, front door, back yard and garden, with a slight slope to shed water and a textured finish for grip. Concrete steps are formed with even risers and treads so they're comfortable to climb, and can be paired with a landing and handrails.
How it works
Driveway, patio, slab or repair: tell us the rough size, the finish you have in mind and your address. Photos of the area help.
The area is measured and checked for slope, drainage, access for the concrete truck and any old concrete that has to come out.
You get a quote that spells out the size, thickness, base, reinforcement, finish and removal of old concrete, so you know what's included.
The ground is excavated, the base compacted and the forms set, then the concrete is poured, finished and jointed. You'll know how long to wait before walking or driving on it.

FAQ
In many cities, the homeowner is responsible for repairing the public sidewalk along their property, and the work has to meet city specifications and may need a permit. The rules differ from city to city, so check with yours before work begins.
Surface flaking, called spalling, usually comes from freeze-thaw cycles and de-icing salts, sometimes made worse by a weak top layer left from the original finishing. Light spalling can sometimes be resurfaced; steps that are crumbling or cracked through are usually replaced.
Roots that lifted the old walkway will lift the new one too. Options include rerouting the path, installing a root barrier, or having an arborist advise on cutting roots without harming the tree.
